Dr Shiladitya Paul has been called as the guest editor of a special issue of the peer-review journal, ‘Coatings.’ The special issue, ‘Coatings for Harsh Environments,’ is devoted to research and review articles related to the metallic, non-metallic and composite coatings used in aggressive environments.
Industries around the world rely on protective coatings for many safety-critical components, often allowing process equipment to operate well beyond the limits of uncoated components. These coatings help improve durability, ease of application, ease of repair, reliability and long term performance.
The journal is currently accepting papers on topics of interest including, but not limited to:
- Coatings for High Temperature and Molten Salt Applications
- Coatings for Mitigating Corrosion in CO2 and H2S Environments
- Thermal Spray and Cold Spray Coatings for Aggressive Environments
- Corrosion, Wear and Cavitation Resistant Coatings
- Coatings for Mitigating Marine Corrosion
- Coatings for Deep Sea Applications
- Coatings for Nuclear Applications
- Coating for Chemical and Petrochemical Plants
- Coatings for Aeroengine Turbines
- Coatings for Applications in Space
- Coatings for Oil Sands and other Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Environments
Aside from being named as guest editor for the Coatings journal, Dr Shiladitya Paul has also been announced as the vice-chairman of the European Federation of Corrosion (EFC) working party on Marine Corrosion.
The working party objectives include providing engineers, designers and materials specialists with information related to the use of materials in the marine environment. In addition, the working party will act as a platform for discussion on the materials aspect of marine corrosion by authorities from industry and academia. The EFC working party will also define areas where information is not up-to-date or available and identify areas where research and development is required. This work will be facilitated by establishing and maintaining contacts with others operating in the same area so that there can be cooperation without duplicating work.
This work will be carried out by organising and participating in workshops, seminars and conferences, carrying out research in areas where scientific knowledge is lacking, and by preparing guidelines on all aspects of marine corrosion.
