Who may attend this course?
You can take this course with or without previous experience in site coatings inspection and is suitable for you if you wish to attain BGAS-CSWIP Approval as a Site Coatings Inspector. The course is also suitable for anyone engaged in the inspection and coating of new and existing pipelines. This qualification is very useful for welding inspectors as it can extend their working time capability on pipeline projects.
What will I learn?
You will learn about corrosion, surface preparation methods and standards, specified coating conditions, surface contaminants and tests for detection. You will also learn about coating technology, coal tar enamels, film thickness, special situations, cold applied laminate tapes, hot applied tapes, grease based tapes, and self-adhesive overwrap tapes.
You will also be taught about polyethylene cladding, fillers, mastics and putties, powder coatings, heat shrinkable plastics, urethane MCLs, holiday detection, concrete coatings, and internal coatings. The course also offers information on cathodic protection, stages of pipeline construction, handling, pipeline surveys, transport and storage, health and safety, coating faults, and working practices and quality.
What are the entry requirements?
The minimum duration for industrial experience prior to or following success in the qualification examination is 1 month, showing knowledge of pipeline fabrication techniques, safe working practices, and a general understanding of coating application would be advantageous.
