Metal inert/active gas (MIG/MAG) is widely used in most industry sectors and accounts for more than 50 per cent of all weld metal deposited. Compared to MMA, MIG/MAG has superior flexibility, deposition rates and suitability for mechanisation. However, it should be noted that while MIG/MAG is ideal for 'squirting' metal, it requires a high degree of manipulative skill from the welder.
TWI has considerable experience in the successful development and qualification of MIG/MAG welding procedures for a variety of different applications, across numerous industry sectors.
We possess a wide range of power sources from various manufacturers, suitable for techniques including CMT (cold metal transfer) and STT (surface tension transfer).
We also have arc welding automation capability for automatic MIG/MAG and are developing additive manufacturing capacity in this area.
