My name is Mohd Idzlan bin Abdul Khani and I am from Negeri Sembilan. Currently, I am working at Total Dynamic at Port Dickson as a QC Inspector. I have been working on my current project for almost one year now and my scope of work mostly involves tank maintenance such as build-up or patching inspection. I am as well involved with the piping inspection.
Now, I am at TWI Malaysia to gain a new qualification. Previously, I held CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector certificate but that certificate will expire in a few months. Now that I have years of industry experience, instead of renewing my old certificate, I decided to upgrade my qualification by taking CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector to increase my knowledge and experience in the field of inspection. I believe that having this certificate will boost my career development and also allow me to get better job prospects in the industry.
Over the past few days that I have attended the course, I have learned about CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector in more detail. My lecturer, Mr. Hassan Kavarodi also is a knowledgeable and good lecturer and he delivers the course very well.
I highly recommend TWI training courses to my peers because if you want to work in the oil and gas industry, most projects and clients require CSWIP certificate holders.
My suggestion to fresh graduates is if you only have a diploma or degree certificate but you do not have any experience it is quite hard for you to join big companies in the oil and gas industry. Therefore, fresh graduates should take additional certificates that would help them land jobs and gain experience no matter if they get a low salary. Start from the bottom and build your way up. Reinvest some money in yourself and attend training to get qualified again the valuable industry relevant certificates.
When Covid-19 happened, the demand for our work decreased drastically. Many had to depend on just the ongoing project as no new projects were kicking off. But for me, since I was a qualified person holding CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector certificate, the negative impact on my career was minimal. This motivated me to invest more in my self-development and take the next step in upgrading my certificate.
After taking CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector, I am passionate about further developing my skills in inspection and I am planning to continue my studies by taking BGAS-CSWIP Site Coating Inspector training. As I am also involved with coating inspection of pipelines, I believe this course will help me get a better and deeper understanding of coatings. Besides that, holding multiple certificates makes you multi-skilled and gives you a competitive advantage when looking for job opportunities in projects.
Lastly, I want to thank Mr. Hassan Kavarodi one more time for his patience and understanding of the students. I found him to be a very detail-oriented person who has a lot of experience in the welding inspection industry. Thank you!
