The outbreak of Covid 19 caused many to suffer from career loss and income shortage. It became evident more than ever how having an in demand skillset can secure the career, even in times of adversity.
A skilled workforce is a valuable asset that developing countries such as Malaysia invest in, as it is what will lead to future growth and prosperity for local industries. To support the Malaysian youth, TWI has been collaborating with various organisations to provide the best of British technical and vocational training services to those who are not financially capable of affording high-quality education.
In a recent collaboration, TWI and SIME Darby will be sponsoring the training and upskilling of 150 students who wish to pursue a career in the welding and inspection industry. Eligible applicants should be Malaysian boys and girls aged 18 to 25, holding a passed SPM certificate and registered with Zakat under the Asnaf category.
The programme will cover practical welder training up to 6G positions, CSWIP Visual Welding Inspection, appreciation of basic NDT, as well as the Oil and Gas Safety Passport (OGSP) by NIOSH and the CIDB Green Card training courses. In addition, all candidates will be undertaking English language lessons, which will prepare them for employment on international projects. The programme ends with the evaluation and qualification of candidates on their completed CSWIP modules and they will all go through a job placement process.
Participants will enjoy the accommodation and daily meals together with a monthly allowance provided during the 16-week training and they will all be covered under insurance for accidents during this period.
