In the oil and gas industry, Plunger Pumps face severe wear and corrosion during operation, and a sudden failure of these pumps can cause a fire, or an explosion, threatening the life of workers.

In less serve circumstances the impacted wear and corrosion mean that the manufacturer has to take this into account in added expense and costs. These costs rare then passed down to the customer.

This proposed PhD research will look to reduce wear and corrosion and see if the use lifetime of these Plunger Pumps can be enhanced by creating more suitable cermet coatings.

Funding for this PhD Studenship provided by LRF

Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF) is a global charity that provides funding that supports research that can protect lives and property through education and academia.

Through this PhD studentship, the success student will be provide with a tax-free bursary stipend for 3 years and will cover the cost of tuition fees.
