Osama M. Khalaf Alla, a NEBOSH International Diploma learner, originally from Sudan with a bachelor’s degree in commerce and a diploma in computer science in 1998, has always been passionate about learning and has been consistently striving to improve his craft and career to adapt to the fast-phased demand of being a recognised health and safety practitioner in UAE.
In 2000, he worked as a QHSE manager at Al Hamriyah Free Zone wherein the safety and health of the business operation was his primary responsibility. To ensure that he would be able to fulfil his role more effectively, he had taken several training courses and seminars to add merit to his knowledge and capabilities. Within seven years, he had become a certified lead auditor and is well-versed professional in the environment, health, and safety policies of the country.
Due to his experience and capabilities, in 2010, another opportunity knocked on his door when he became an EHS inspector and a team leader in one of the prominent consulting firms which provided EHS expertise for the Al Ain Municipality. Ensuring that he is top of the curve, Osama decided to take the NEBOSH International General Certificate and IOSH Managing Safely where he achieved respective awards with flying colours. He believed that achieving these qualifications will further elevate his status to cement his competency and expertise in the field of health and safety.
Between 2015 and 2019, he had been working as a senior EHS engineer on several government projects where his role was focused predominantly in the heart of the health and safety of multiple operations.
In his line of work, there would always be some unexpected and tremendous challenges that he has faced. Adherence to federal safety regulations and protecting the lives of others are Osama’s principal concerns. It had become quite apparent to Osama that he wanted to take another step to upskill his knowledge in order to empower and equip him to recommend, implement and review appropriate health and safely management systems and methodologies more effectively and efficiently.
Wasting no time, he enrolled for the NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety with TWI Middle East FZ LLC, where he has already successfully cleared three units. He is currently awaiting his results of the recent examination of the last unit to gain the NEBOSH International Diploma qualification. He plans to pursue an MSc in occupational health, safety and environmental management soon after.
Osama believes that training and gaining the highly lauded qualification through TWI will open more doors for opportunity and growth. Today, Osama proudly works as Senior HSE Officer in one of the largest and most prestigious hospitals in the UAE, which offers a wealth of medical healthcare and wellbeing services. Conducting risk assessments, ensuring safety compliances by all parties, and reviewing safety procedures and their implementation are just few of his tremendous responsibilities.
Osama adds, “Consistency in gaining knowledge will make continual improvements in my knowledge and career.” He encourages everyone to continue learning and believes that hard work always brings success and security to your family and ultimately, to society.
