Wed, 07 December, 2022

We were delighted to invite attendees back to TWI Cambridge for the ‘Metal Additive Manufacturing Symposium’ on 30 November 2022.

This hybrid event saw 55 people attend in person and a further 218 people joining us online as we invited along a range of guest speakers to join our own experts during the day.

Following arrival, our Advanced Manufacturing Technologies Group Manager, Robert Scudamore welcomed the attendees before Filomeno Martina, the CEO of WAAM3D Ltd, delivered a talk on, ‘RoboWAAM: an integrated hardware - software ecosystem for WAAM.’

Siemens’ Solutions Consultant for NX AM and CAM, Joe Clulow then presented on, ‘Integrated part manufacturing with Siemens NX,’ before TWI Section Manager, Carl Hauser gave a presentation about developments in laser additive manufacturing activities at TWI.

A short coffee break gave time for those in attendance to network before Christoph Hauck, a Member of the Executive Board at Toolcraft AG, offered, ‘AM news from the point of view of a full-service provider,’ and CEO and Founder of Epoch Wires, Serdar Atamert spoke on ‘NanoTi.’

The morning session closed with TWI Section Manager, Tyler London providing, ‘Updates on modelling AM lattices and microstructures.’

The lunch break offered more opportunity for those in attendance to meet and network with one-another and the presenters before Titomic’s Head of Sales, Dominic Parsonson began the afternoon session with a discussion of, ‘Cold spray - use cases, applications and opportunities.’

Ponticon’s Managing Director, Tobias Stittgen then took the floor to present on, ‘Towards productivity, precision and material flexibility: value proposition of high-speed DED,’ and Martin White, Head of Additive Manufacturing Programs for ASTM in Europe, spoke on the topic of, ‘Accelerating qualification and certification for critical AM applications.’

The final presentation of the day was from Simon McCaldin, Open Innovation Lead at Authentise, who discussed, ‘Why manufacturing execution in AM matters.’

A survey was conducted during the day, with Robert Scudamore returning to present the results before the day closed with a tour of the TWI facilities for those who were able to attend in-person.

We would like to thank all of our speakers as well as those who attended (both physically and virtually) for making the symposium such a success.
