TWI has had a long standing presence in China. Introducing the services to the country by TWI Ltd, the operations in China have drastically developed with TWI South East Asia (SEA) taking over the delivery of training and examination services across the country.
Every year more than 600 candidates benefit from the training services of TWI China. TWI SEA has been operating in China for almost 15 years and its reach has expanded drastically over this period of time. Geographical features of the country as well as its business culture has led TWI to operate via a network of authorised agencies which promote, administer and facilitate the training and examination delivery. TWI’s main office is located in Beijing and, currently, the network of nine agents deliver training courses in all major cities including Qingdao, Shenzen, Yantai, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Dalian, Ningbo, Lang Fang, Xi’an and many more.
Since the first CSWIP visual welding inspector class was conducted in Shenzhen in 2006, various training courses have been added to the offerings of TWI in China. Similar to all other countries, welding inspection courses are the most popular training courses in China. In addition to that, the full range of non-destructive testing (NDT) courses including conventional methods of magnetic particles testing (MT), penetrant testing (PT), ultrasonic testing (UT) and radiographic interpretation (RI) as well as the advanced methods of AUT, phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) and time of flight diffraction (TOFD) are regularly conducted in different venues across the country.
Responding to the needs of the Chinese market, training courses and examinations are delivered in Mandarin. This facilitates the training process and enhances the learning process for the local students who may not be proficient in English.
The certified and approved local lecturers deliver the training courses and TWI SEA monitors the delivery of the courses and conducts the assessment, which leads to CSWIP certification for successful candidates.
Makhzan Mirza Malik, who is the country manager of China, highlights the importance of the close collaboration of TWI with the extensive network of agents and perfect coordination with the headquarters in Malaysia, which guarantees an exceptional experience for the Chinese candidates.
The electronic examination which has been utilised in Malaysia and a few other countries in the region will be available in China from 2021. This is a big step in shortening the turnaround time of exam results and certification, which promises a higher satisfaction level to the candidates.
In addition to the training and certification services, TWI South East Asia is capable of providing engineering consultancy services in China. The range of the services includes, but is not limited to, asset integrity management, inspection and non-destructive examination as well as welding and joining technologies.
