YSD Sponsored Candidates Start Their Training Programme

This week, second group of students sponsored by YSD start their training at TWI Malaysia. The induction day began with the Health and Safety Induction Briefing by Mr. Ahmad Hazwan. To ensure about students safety at school during the pandemic times, students were given instruction on the proper SOPs and practices such as wearing facemasks at all times and maintaining the appropriate social distancing at all times.

The programme officiated by a welcome speech delivered by the programme manager Ms. Ainura. In her speech, she gave words of encouragement to the students and highlighted the expectation from them to make the most of the opportunity given to them to learn a skill set which will not only change their own lives, but also improve their families’ lives. She reassured the students that the TWI team will be by the students sides at all stages of their training to support them for a successful outcome.

Following Ainura’s speech, the students were taken on a tour of TWI’s facilities and the welding bays to get familiar with the environment they will be spending time at for the next four months and the method of learning that they will receive in this period of time.

After the tour of the building, candidates returned to the event hall to have a virtual meet and greet with their sponsor, Yayasan Sime Darby virtually via Zoom. Mr. Rusdi the representative of Yayasan Sime Darby gave a speech about the YSD Skill Enrichment programme. In his speech, he hope that the students will commit to the programme’s goal and learn from TWI’s lecturers as much as they can to gain the skills necessary for a successful career.

 

Over the next four months, the students will cover practical welder training up to 6G position, CSWIP Visual Welding Inspection, appreciation of basic NDT, as well as the Oil and Gas Safety Passport (OGSP) by NIOSH and the CIDB Green Card training courses.

All graduates will have guaranteed job placement following success in the examinations.

This programme is offered to asnaf (eligible to receive Zakat aid collected from the Muslim community) and tahfiz students to improve their standard of living through access to quality education, in line with one of YSD’s Education pillar objectives. The 4-month certification programme aims to empower the students with internationally recognised vocational and technical skills as well as personal development and soft skills to enhance their job marketability.

Since 2011, YSD had assisted 1,030 underprivileged students under the YSD Skill Enrichment programme to pursue TVET certifications, through collaborations with reliable education partners including the Ministry of Higher Education to fulfil talent needs in various industries.
