The GeoHex project consortium, of which TWI is a part, are holding a webinar to share information related to their work on novel coatings for geothermal heat exchangers.
The online event, ‘Novel Coatings for Geothermal Heat Exchangers’ will take place on 15 March 2023 from 13:00-14:00 GMT with presentations from project leaders from Grein Research, Tæknisetur and the Innovation Centre Iceland.
Heat exchangers are critical components for geothermal energy exploitation, but are susceptible to damage from scaling and corrosion as a result of the harsh operating conditions associated with Geothermal.
The GeoHex team have been working to develop materials for heat exchangers that offer improvements in anti-corrosion and anti-scaling properties as well as enhanced heat transfer performance. These materials will deliver improved efficiencies alongside a reduction in costs.
The challenge addressed by the consortium lies in finding metal alloy compositions that form a stable amorphous structure, with materials capable of delivering the required anti-corrosion properties as well as being able to withstand the high temperatures associated with geothermal applications.
This webinar will provide information on the GeoHex project achievements and the development of the required scaling and corrosion resistant coatings, along with their effects on heat transfer performance.
